Sharon Skill Swap - February 10, 9 - 4 pm!
Mark your calendars for the first Sharon Skill Swap on February 10th, from 9 AM to 4 PM!
The event will start at Sharon Elementary School in the gym at 9 am. Sign up for classes starting at 9 am, come early to secure a spot in a class!
All classes and workshops will be held in the heart of Sharon, Vermont, at the Sharon Food Shelf, Sharon Academy Middle School, Sharon Elementary School, Seven Stars, the Baxter Memorial Library, and Steele Chapel. Maps and schedule will be distributed starting at 9 am. Classes start at 10 am, so come early!
Community Potluck from noon to 1 pm, all are welcome to come (even if you are not taking any classes or workshops!). Bring a dish to share with your community!
Bring your curiosity, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn! All workshops are free to attend, and you can attend as many as you like.

Small Engine Basics by Jessica Whitney
Learn how to get your yard equipment ready for use. Learn how to tune up and do basic diagnostics on your gas powered equipment.
Spoon Carving with Dick Ruben
Demonstration session (not a hands-on class) of spoon carving from a raw block of wood to the finished product.This demonstration will include spoons at the different stages of carving. You will learn what tools to buy if you are interested in doing it yourself, and what wood to use. QA with Dick Ruben.
Fly Tying with Dick Ruben
Hands-on session where the attendee will learn the basics of fly tying and tie one or two. QA with Dick Ruben.
Building cool Duplo ships (Kids' class! limited to 4 kids and 2 adults) by Robin Servoz
Do you like building with legos, but sometimes you just want to build bigger things? We will play with duplos and build a few different kinds of boats.
Presentation and discussion on global climate Change by Dee Gish
A presentation and discussion of climate change and environmental justice. The slideshow will cover the scientific basics of global warming and how the climate is changing. We will learn about how marginalized people and those least responsible for the climate crisis bear an unequal burden. If time allows, we can discuss solutions and ways to actively engage in creating a better future.
Sourdough Pizza by Ryan Haac
Learn to make Sourdough Pizza from scratch with Ryan Haac. You will learn a good sourdough pizza dough recipe, and have some hands-on experience on how to shape and bake a pizza using the woodfired pizza oven on the school ground. Pizza will be then served at the community potluck at noon.
Table Saw Circle Cutting Jig by Scott Henkels
Setting up a jig for cutting circles on a table saw. No really! Table saws cut perfect circles....when approached carefully. Attendees should have high familiarity with table saw use; we will demo on a table saw and have hands on if time allows. Earplugs and safety glasses will be available or BYO.
Watercolor painting for beginners by Karen Rodis
Have you wanted to try watercolor painting but don’t know where to start? This class will give you a general introduction to the art supplies, basic techniques, and simple color theory. We’ll create a few paintings that you will take home with you. Supply List (we will have a limited amount of supplies available): Please bring a set of watercolor paints (any is fine as long as it has all the colors of the rainbow) and at least two watercolor brushes. It is recommended to bring at least one ¾” flat watercolor brush and one 10” or 12” round watercolor brush. Since this is a beginner class I don’t want you to spend a lot of money on materials, but you will have a better painting experience if you have minimally the two recommended brushes.
Composting Community Food Waste & QA about composting by Cat Buxton

Basic Pasta Making by Eileen Lanza
Learn how to make dough, roll, dry and cut to make perfect, delicious fettuccine . I will show you how to make it with a simple pasta roller and a rolling pin version, the way my grandma did it!
Participants should come with an apron, rolling pin and pastry or pizza cutter, if possible

Creative Writing for Everyone by Shana Hickman
Have you ever wanted to write but you weren't sure where to start? In this workshop, we'll engage in fun idea-generating exercises and work together to get results and find joy in the writing process. All writers of any experience level are welcome. Attendees will also have the opportunity to share their work with the group in a kind and encouraging environment. Bring a journal or laptop, a warm drink, and your imagination.
